When was the last time you bought a book printed on paper? Probably a long time ago, since with the popularization of e-books more and more people are choosing to enjoy reading online instead of traditional books. Ikea, the renowned interior design firm, has been thinking about this issue and has decided to change the design of its shelves.
At first Ikea, like most home furnishing companies, presented shelves where books could be accommodated with greater organization. This is the case of the famous Libreria Billy from Ikea, which will be the protagonist of the changes that will adjust to this new era.
Ikea has announced that every day fewer customers are requesting shelves with places for physical books. What’s more, these wide shelves are even taking up unnecessary space because even though they have plenty of room for books, there are no physical books to be stored.
Besides, these shelves were displaced from the decoration of small spaces since you must save as much space as possible and the Billy bookcase, being unnecessary because there are no printed books to accommodate, is totally out of the selection of furniture.
It is for all this that Ikea announced the renovation of its Billy bookcase, which will surely be presented in a short time. The ad was published in The Economic magazine and there they commented on the idea of changing the design of Billy’s shelving to make it deeper and to put a glass door on it.
With this new design of the Billy shelf from Ikea, the furniture will take up less space and offer other functions. Mainly it will look much more aesthetic and attractive with the glass doors, but also because it has more depth it can be used to place other types of decorative objects.
